As the only full-service full-time florist between Albuquerque and Grants, Desert Flower is here to meet your floral needs! At Desert Flower, we pledge to provide distinctive quality and unparalleled customer service as we strive to gain the respect and trust of our customers.

We have a current Nursery Dealer License with the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) as a Nursery Dealer and Florist Dealer. As of August 14, 2009, Desert Flower passed a "Nursery Industries Inspection" given by the NMDA.

We are a minority woman owned small business. Our service area is very broad which includes our delivery area. We strive to meet all our customers needs with the highest professionalism and quality!

We are currently members of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of New Mexico (AICCNM). Our owner also has affiliation with the American Science and Engineering Society (AISES).

Our Business

Desert Flower was originally established in 2001 as Denise's Desert Flower. In December 2008, Shayai Lucero purchased the business and strives to provide high quality floral arrangements and gifts.

We are proud to have on staff, LaDeen Roughsurface (Laguna), a certified floral designer. We guarantee that you will be happy with any floral or balloon arrangement that you purchase from us.

Desert Flower's Owner

Shayai Lucero was born and raised on the reservations of the Pueblos of Acoma and Laguna. She is a 2008 graduate of the University of New Mexico (B.S. Biology, Minor in Chemistry). She is also a former Miss Indian World (1997). Shayai is a lifelong student of the traditional Pueblo healing methods. In 2005, she received her Certificate in Traditional Mexican Healing. The certificate program was a multi-institutional program involving the University of New Mexico, La Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos (Mexico) and el Centro de Desarrollo Humano hacia la Comunidad (Mexico).

Ms. Lucero and her husband, Aaron Fry, are raising their two young children in Laguna.

Desert Flower's Certified Professional Floral Designer

LaDeen Roughsurface (Laguna) is a rarity! She a Native American professionally trained floral designer. She holds two diplomas (over 60 hours) in Basic Floral Design and Advance Floral Design from the New Mexico School of Floral Design. LaDeen has designed floral arrangements for weddings, banquets, and many other special events.

Desert Flower is the only place in the Laguna/Acoma area to have a full-time certified floral designer.

Other Important People at Desert Flower

In addition to Shayai and LaDeen, Shayai's family members are in the shop helping to make the business a success. When you come visit, you will see Shayai's parents Cecelia Lucero (Acoma) and Stanley Lucero (Laguna). Also working at the shop is her brother, Haitsi (Acoma/Laguna). They all work to make Desert Flower successful.

Desert Flower is truly a family run business. So while you are browsing the gift shop, you may run into toys placed by Shayai's two children, Kaweshchima or Maityaitsa. You will also be greeted by the family dog, Buddy.
